Anti-gravity racing · 8 hulls · 3 laps
Span Nine
Eight hulls on a mag strip around a dead star. Bleed into the corners, ride the boost and hold the line.
Bots hold every empty seat · one tap and you are in
Phone · computer · TV
Play it on anything. Put it on the TV.
Nothing to download and nothing to install: Span Nine runs in the browser you already have, and everyone who presses Play meets in the same public room.
On your phone
A floating stick under your left thumb steers; BOOST, SHIELD and BRAKE on the right, and FIRE when you carry ordnance.
Point your phone’s camera at the code, or open official.homie.rocks/span-nine/play.
You are on it: press Play above.
On your computer
A/D or arrows steer, Shift boosts, S brakes, Q/E air-brakes, Space fires, Ctrl shields. Any standard gamepad works.
On the TV
- Open official.homie.rocks/span-nine/tv in the TV’s browser, or on a laptop plugged into it.
- Scan the code it shows with your phone’s camera.
- Play on your phone. Everyone on the couch joins the same way, up to 8 pilots, and the TV shows the whole room.
The big screen follows the race; phones fly the hulls.
Live rooms
Rooms open the moment you press Play
No one is in a room this minute. Press Play and you start at once, with bots in the empty seats; whoever presses Play next takes a bot’s place in your room.
How to play
Thrust is free. Speed costs heat.
A space racer on a magnetic strip that loops round a dead star. There is no throttle: the strip carries your hull, and boost is the only acceleration. Boost, weapons and shields all cost heat, and you only shed it by radiating, so the sunlit half of the lap is where you cook and the eclipse is where you recover. Bots fly every hull nobody has; whoever arrives takes one over where it is flying. Every mesh, texture and sound effect is generated in code.
- The strip carries your hull: there is no throttle to hold.
- Boost is the only acceleration. It costs heat, and so do weapons and shields.
- Brake into a corner with the stick pushed into it to slide through.
- Fly the gates for ordnance, then fire it at the hulls ahead.
- Three laps; then a new grid, rotated so nobody keeps pole.
- free, in the browser
- bots fill empty seats
- join any time: take a bot’s place
- rounds restart on their own
- phones as controllers on a TV
